When Travelling During Your Vacation By Greg K. Hansward

March 18th, 2009

If you are travelling to a specific place or at a specific time, it is most useful if you get a reservation before hand! In fact, the best way to plan your trip is to look to see who offers the best package, or who has cheap reservations without any hassle!

When planning your vacation, there are many things that you can do to make sure that you get where you want to go or what you want for a cheaper price! In fact, the first thing that you can do is plan your vacation during the off season. During the off peak seasons, the hotels, car rentals, as well as many airlines offer much cheaper prices and tickets. In fact, some of them are up to 50% cheaper! Also, some hotels give discounts to people that are senior citizens, honeymooners, military personnel, or even students.

Another thing you can do is stay at hotels/motels where kids are free! If you are a family with 2 or 3 kids, that could save you a lot of money! Also, if you are not very picky about the location of the hotel, you may use name your price websites to find cheaper hotels; such as Price-Line or Travelocity. Other wise if you may rent a car if you are staying at a distant hotel. Also, many times hotels will give you a “free night” for staying there for a certain amount of time! Another possibility is staying at a hotel that is a little distance away that is cheaper rather than in the middle the attractions; it is a great way to save money!

When renting a room, you will want to make sure that you are not paying for any unwanted surcharges or extra fees that weren’t mentioned. Before you reserve your room, you will want to ask about those as well as keeping an eye out at check out time!

Many times people will also turn in their frequent flyer miles for hotels or car rentals, as well! You may want to see which hotels except the flyer miles! Also, many hotels are now providing free service rides to and from the airport; therefore, you may want to see which ones offer that service so you can save money!

If you are planning a vacation and do not want to go during off season, then it would be best to do some looking around first! Also, it is possible to find some reasonable rates during the weekend; all you have to do is look and plan ahead! Also, it is equally important to always remember to get your confirmation numbers!!

Barco Scrubs on the Outer Banks By Alice Lane

March 18th, 2009

The Currituck Outer Banks of North Carolina are the east coast’s best kept secret! Swim, surf, build a castle in the sand, look for seashells, watch the wild Spanish mustangs roam the shore, or just relax on the sun kissed beaches of Currituck County. Barco NC on Currituck Sound is your gateway to fabulous fun in the sun. Besides enjoying refreshing Barco scrubs in the ocean, you can play golf on North Carolina’s world-class courses with their challenging fairways and lush greens, which offer a great game to golfers of all levels of skill. Find out about the custom golf specials and packages offered by the Outer Banks Golf Association. Or, you can shop in the fascinating antique, specialty, and gift shops; farmers markets; and vineyards for which Currituck County is justly famous. The natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle makes Currituck County the ideal place to combine a destination wedding with a romantic honeymoon – the place your dreams come true!

Currituck was established in the year 1668 – one of the earliest settled areas in the United States. The name comes from an Algonquin Indian word which means “Land of Wild Goose”, since the outer banks have abundant waters, woods, and marshes which shelter a host of wildlife. In the early eighteenth century the original Currituck County Courthouse was built. It was replaced in 1842, and is presently the home of the local government’s administration offices. In 1776 the Currituck jail was built; this jail, with the historic County Courthouse, are among the oldest buildings in the state. In the early nineteenth century Currituck County was a place of fishing villages like Barco metro scrubs on Currituck Sound, and little farming towns. The opening of the Albemarle Chesapeake Waterway in 1859, now known as the Intracoastal Waterway, made Barco an important point on the sea passage between Maine and Florida. To this day Currituck County has popular marinas and restaurants which cater to the pleasure boats and the commercial vessels which travel the Waterway. In the mid nineteenth century the Currituck Beach Lighthouse was constructed to warn ships sailing the chain of reefs and barrier Islands along the coast. By the latter part of the nineteenth century Currituck County became known as a sportsmen’s paradise, whose many wildlife and hunting clubs – such as the Whalehead Club, Currituck Shooting Club, and Pine Island Club – provided sport and recreation for wealthy industrialists.

Besides the cheap scrubs on Currituck County’s pristine beaches, some great outdoor adventures include Hiking the Charles Kuralt trail on Knotts Island; Climbing the 214 steps up to the top of Currituck Beach Lighthouse, a majestic red brick structure first lit in 1875, with a magnificent view of the North Carolina coast; Visiting the Currituck Outer Banks Historic Village, with its restored Corolla School House and the Wild Horse Museum, which offer fun and educational programs for kids in the summer; Taking a Wild Corolla Mustang Pony Jeep Adventure tour – off-the-road guided tours guaranteed to spot wild mustangs or your money back! Walking the Currituck Banks National Estuary Preserve trails, which take birdwatchers and nature lovers deep into the marshes to see the natural beauty of the Outer Banks.

There’s a whole lot more to Currituck County than Barco metro scrubs! On North Carolina’s beautiful Outer Bank beaches you can see wild Mustangs; enjoy the wonders of nature and history; and of course there are cheap scrubs, swimming, and surfing. When you think of fabulous east coast vacations, think of Barco scrubs.

Fun in the Sun With Island Christmas Vacations By Huzaili Aris

March 18th, 2009

If you are looking to get away from the cold winter and have fun this holiday season, why not take one of the Island Christmas vacations that are being offered by many travel agencies both online and off. The recession that has hit the United States has also hit the Caribbean islands as a good deal of their tourism flows from the United States. As a result, many of the islands in the Caribbean are seeking ways to get people to travel to their island and enjoy a vacation by offering discount packages.

Some of the best ways that you can enjoy Island Christmas vacations include:

Take a Cruise

If you take a Caribbean cruise, all of your meals are included as well as the accommodations. You can get cruises that will take you around the Caribbean and visit one or two of the islands. The destination that you choose is up to you, but all of the Caribbean islands are warm and tropical this time of the year and your entire family is sure to enjoy these island Christmas vacations. When on a cruise, you will have to pay for alcoholic beverages and tipping as these are not usually included in the cruise fare.

Go all Inclusive

Try an all inclusive resort such as Sandals. Many people enjoy all inclusive resorts because they do not have to fret over where they are going to eat or how they are going to get around the island. Meals are often included in these islands Christmas vacations and resorts can offer you privacy as well as luxury. You can choose from high end resorts that have every amenity that you can imagine, to more discount resorts that are usually family friendly. An all inclusive resort vacation to the islands is often the best and most economical way to visit the Caribbean. Bear in mind that all inclusive means different things in different resorts, so be sure that you understand what is included in your fee. In many cases, it will include activities, rentals, entertainment and some meals. Not all meals are always included so be sure to check it out before booking.

Try a Vacation Rental

Many people never consider renting a vacation home or condominium when they go away and automatically think only of hotels. Often, you can get a good deal on rental units and many of them have a beach view as well as in ground pools as well as space and privacy. If you are looking to get away from it all this Christmas season, you can find peace and serenity when you choose a vacation rental. Rental units range from condominiums to luxury beachfront homes. These end up saving you money when it comes to food as well. You can often have breakfast and lunch inside the rental and eat out for dinner only, saving more money.

Take a look at the air fares for different island destinations and choose one of the islands that will be perfect for your Christmas vacation. If you are traveling with family, choose a resort, cruise or rental that is family friendly when visiting the islands. You can find just about anything to suit your lifestyle when traveling to the Caribbean. Make this Christmas truly special by taking one of the island Christmas vacations that will be perfect for you and your family.

Timeless Travel – Why You Should Leave Your Watch at Home By Stephen J. James

March 17th, 2009

How do you start your day?

If you’re an office slave or a student you’re probably ripped out of a warm, blissful slumber by the most evil invention known to man – the alarm clock – and launched straight into a blind, flailing attack on the snooze button.

When you do finally separate yourself from your toasty warm bed and start to get ready, you probably cast nervous glances at the clocks around your home (perhaps whilst hopping around putting your socks on, if you’re anything like me). On your way to work, school or university, the unblinking digits of your phone or the sweeping hands of your wristwatch define whether you’ll be sneaking in late or not. As the day drags on, the seemingly unmoving clock on the wall or on your computer dictates your day, no doubt in between daydreams of being in far more exotic places.

The sad fact is that for the vast majority of us, our daily lives are inescapably defined – and constrained – by time. It’s all around us; you can’t get away from it.

Or can you?

When you finally act on your daydreams and embark on a period of extended travel such as a round the world trip, you have a very real opportunity to temporarily decouple yourself from the leadweight of time – but only if you allow yourself to.

So how do manage to break out of your habit of dependence on the clock whilst traveling?

It’s simple. When you’re packing for your trip, just leave your wristwatch behind. Whether you’re exploring Beijing’s winding hutong, biking through the Black Forest or lying on a beach in the Perhentian Islands with a Mars bar shake in hand, what need do you have to know that it’s 10:43am? Absolutely none at all.

Travelling without a watch can be disconcerting for some at first, especially after years of living to a routine. But fight the urge to replace your daily work/school routine with a regimented travel routine, and as you start to relax and get into the flow of travel, you’ll get used to it, and begin to really appreciate the unrivaled sense of freedom it gives you.

But I need to know the time! I hear some of you cry. Yes – there are rare times on the road when you need to be somewhere at a particular time, for instance to take an onward flight. There are plenty of public clocks around town that you can glance at when you need to know – churches, town halls, and railway/subway stations are all a safe bet for you to realign your internal clock. Or you could always ask someone, or sneak a look at someone’s watch.

But most of the time when you don’t need to know, why keep a constant reminder of what enslaved you in your previous life strapped to your wrist?

Steve James has undertaken two year-long bouts of budget travel and has recently started putting his experiences to paper in his very own guide to budget travel. By teaming up with a number of big names in the backpacking industry, his guide offers a number of discounts off products and services for backpackers, most notably an exclusive World Nomads promotional code giving 6% off a backpacker insurance policy.

Plymouth – A Profile By John Holloway

March 17th, 2009

Plymouth is a city located in the south-west of the UK on the south coast of Devon on the border with Cornwall, about 190 miles south-west of London. Plymouth is home to over 250,000 people (the 15th most populous city in England), has an area of 30.6 sq miles and at it’s highest point rise to155 metres above sea level.

Historically Plymouth was located between the River Plym and the River Tamar where they flow into Plymouth Sound. However in recent years Plymouth has also included the suburbs of Plymstock and Plympton, which are located to the east of the River Plym.

The Sound and the lower river valley and estuaries around Plymouth are a classic example of a drowned river valley system. The two main river valleys are incised on both flanks by east-west running valleys, which typically resulted in creeks at the confluence with the main rivers. These creeks are less prominent today as many have been filled in and reclaimed by both man and natural processes. Such reclaimed creeks are found at Lipson, Stonehouse and Weston Mill.

The site where Plymouth is located was first settled in the Bronze Age, when a settlement was founded at Mount Batten. Mount Batten was the main point of settlement in the area until the more prosperous village of Sutton, the modern Plymouth, surpassed it. During the English Civil War the town was held by the Parliamentarians and was besieged by Royalists between 1642 and 1646. The After the restoration construction began on the Royal Citadel began and it was armed with cannon facing both out to sea and into the town. It is rumoured that this was done as a reminder to the local population that they should not oppose the Crown.

During the Industrial Revolution the port at Plymouth expanded and began handling imports and passengers from the Americas as well as construction of ships for the Royal Navy. Plymouth’s Naval facilities led to it being targeted by the Luftwaffe during World War II and it’s partial destruction in what became known as the Plymouth Blitz. After the war the centre of Plymouth centre was completely rebuilt.

Today, Plymouth’s economy is still grounded in shipbuilding, but it has become a more service-based economy in the last 20 years. It has a large university, the University of Plymouth, and the largest operational naval base in Western Europe – HMNB Devonport. Plymouth has direct rail links to London, easy road access to the rest of the UK via the A38 and M5, ferry links to France and Spain and an airport with international services.

Travel Money – Which Way is the Best Way? By X. Rainey

March 17th, 2009

Travel Money – we all need it on a regular basis. Whether doing an annual holiday abroad, or regular business trips, you always need local currency in order to get by. While most countries accept credit cards, there are places you will encounter issues with a card – Iran, for example. Not only that, but you might find that each time you spend using your credit or debit card, your card issuer charges a fee for the transaction. It’s a good idea to look at the various options of carrying money around while travlelling overseas. There are so many ways to do it, and the first mistake that many people make is that they exchange all their money at the regular bureau de change on the high street or at the airport. What you will find when going about it this way is that you will fall foul of high commission fees and poor exchange rates. There are some who do not charfe commission but the rate will almost be guaranteed to be bad. All you end up with is no value for money.

Luckily though, there are many cost effective ways of ordering travel money and they are likely to be less hassle as well! To start with, have you ever considered that you can order travel money online? Most travel money companies offer this option. A great feature of ordering online is that most companies will also give you the option of having the currency delivered to your door via a safe courier service. Depending on what time of day you make the order, some companies will even offer next day delivery. For those that would rather not wait for delivery can have the option of picking up the currency from a branch of their choice.

While many travel agencies suffer from commission fees and poor rates, currency providers are more competitive. However, these do vary from provider to provider so it’s best to shop around when looking for foreign currency. The easiest way to do this is via online comparison sites or via Google.

Another feature to look out for is commission – free buyback. That means when you come back from your trip, if you have currency leftover the provider will buy this back at no commission.

Which Way To Pay is an independent comparison site which gives you unbiased information on a large number of financial products. Compare and Review all Foreign Exchange, FX Rates, Currency, Travel Money, Travellers Cheques, Travel FX Cards, Loans and Credit Cards Online. All credit cards compared and reviewed – Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Business Credit cards, Credit Cards for those with a Poor Credit Rating and more.

Creating a Cosy Caravan By Terry Henman

March 17th, 2009

A caravan or motor-home is a marvellous way to see the world whilst till enjoying all the comforts of home. A hotel room is great but it lacks that personal touch and it certainly can’t come with you wherever decide to go. The only problem with caravans and motor-homes is image most of us have of wall to wall kitsch 1970’s décor, luckily though that is not something that cannot be remedied.

Decorating a caravan couldn’t be simpler. The small amount of space means less is definitely more so a minimal, clutter free style is definitely the way to go. A simple dark yet stylishly coloured carpet will definitely add some durable comfort. Go for a rich plum or aubergine for a contemporary look that won’t need constant cleaning. If your caravan is going to be touring the festivals then it is best to stick to a vinyl floor covering which can be wiped clean in seconds.

Walls should be kept pattern free and light in shade. White may be a little too unforgiving so soften the look by opting for off white or for some neutral but warm tones such as cream or butterscotch. To increase the feeling of space add some mirrors to walls and doors and steal space from the outside by keeping your windows clutter free.

Add touches of home and areas of colour in the form of accessories like clocks, cutlery and picture frames, or soft furnishings like cushions, colourful bedspreads or throws. It is probably best to choose one bright colour as your accent colour then stick to it when it comes to such items. This will create a unified theme and therefore increase the feeling of space. Too many colours will make for a cluttered finish. You can spread the colour to the bathroom by including towels and bathmats in the same shade. In the summer go for a zesty lemon or lime and in the winter add warmth with chocolate or crimson accents.

In terms of furniture, it is best to spend a little more on things that have multi uses, not only will this save money in the long run but it will give you more room to manoeuvre. You could for example, include a couch-bed that also has storage in the body so you can hide your bedding and duvet during the daytime. Instead of a cooker, oven and toaster, why not purchase a microwave that can also act as a grill and defroster? This is save plenty of room and cut down on the number of hazards onboard. A set of cheap roller blinds would be best suited here due to its simple design and easy maintenance. Choosing a blind that offers total blackout is also sensible if you want a restful sleep.A folding table and chair set is also preferable to a fixed one as it gives you the option of eating outside if the weather is particularly nice and also means you can make some space for an inflatable mattress should you be travelling in a large party.
